What is the best type of ball toy for a German Shepherd?
As of yesterday, I have been fostering a German Shepherd. And, since yesterday, he has eaten (well, chewed into a heap) about a dozen tennis balls. He seems to REALLY love his tennis balls, but I don't think I can afford to go through a dozen balls a day.
He has his rope tug and a stuffed animal "squeak" toy, but he doesn't enjoy them as much as the balls.
Any ideas?
A solid, hard rubber ball (the company that makes Kongs makes one, and there are several others) will be more durable and they usually come in the same standard size as tennis balls as well as a larger and/or smaller size option. Also, with my own german shepherds I have found that the real tennis balls are more durable than the cheaper ones that the petstores sell specifically for dogs. However, depending on how aggressive a chewer he is you may not be able to find a ball that he can't destroy.
