Do you have pet insurance? If so, what are the pros and cons of pet insurance?
I think if your low income and think that you'll have a hard time getting your pet to the vet, than insurance is the way to go. Unforentlty for me, my cat was too old and insurance companies wouldnt take her.
I'm strongly considering this option in the future and was wondering if anybody on yahoo has anything good for bad to say about pet insurance. What are the pros and cons of pet insurance?
I priced it out for my elder cat and my new kitten (and ignored all the cats in between) and found that it is prohibitively expensive. I believed that if I simply opened up a savings account and put the "premiums" in that account, I would be far far ahead of the game unless my cat happened to get one of the rare things that were covered by insurance.
Pet insurance isn't 100% coverage and will only pay a % of each claim and that is after the deductible. Unless you get the most expensive policies, most of the basic issues that can pop up in a cat's life aren't covered.
I did see a dog owner once have a dog who had a blown out knee get their money out of pet insurance, but for the most part it is a loosing bet, and you would be better off setting up a savings account for general vet care and emergencies and contribute to it as you would premiums for insurance.
