Can you walk a chinchilla on a leash?
I've got a pet chinchilla that's about the size of one's head. It's about four, and quite tiny.
I was just wondering if you could fit chinchillas in collars and walk it on a leash? And do you know if chinchillas respond to people's calls?
No leashes, no collars, no harnesses. Aside from the temperature issues already mentioned, if your chin decides to spazz and take off while on a leash, you can easily snap his neck (collar) or crush his rubs (harness). Those things are just not meant for a chinchilla. They also go against a chin's natural motion of hopping instead of walking, and it's very hard for them to adapt. The fear factor would also weigh heavily against it. Chinchillas are pretty much lowest on the totem pole of the food chain. It would scare them silly to be out in the big wide world where anything and everything could hurt them.
Just allow your chin to have free range time in a chin safe room or playpen, where you know they will be safe and in a regulated climate. They will be much happer and so will you.
